The ancient plainchant melody Te Lucis Ante Terminum threads through this short piece three times, accompanied by sounds evoking dusk and nightfall.
There are several improvisatory elements within the piece, with a group of soloists invited to imitate birdsong, string players given ‘boxes’ of notes to choose from and improvised sounds inspired by the calls of birds across the darkening landscape.
